In With The New By: Edwin Ramirez

For those who know, Ms. Campbell is the new K-Rock teacher, and for those
that don't now you know. Mrs. Larkan took the job as Counselor for the
juniors, and she is doing a swell job. I was very excited about being in
K-Rock but come to find out right before Christmas break that Mrs.
Larkan was not going to come back as the K-Rock teacher. Ms. Campbell is
really cool and handling the job like she has been doing it for
years. She's a natural. Also, she plans on doing new improvements and has
already started perusing those. She has also gotten a new table, so we
can do the morning announcements and a back board of down town like in
the newsroom. Good luck to both teachers on taking on their new jobs.

9 Girls *1 Team *1 Goal By: Alex Flores and Tracy Jones

Since 1989, The Lady Longhorns haven't been to the playoffs. Recently,
we broke our 50 game losing streak, now we know that anything is
possible and that we can do anything we put our minds to.
The Lady Longhorns consist of 2 seniors, Alisha and Raela, 2
juniors, myself (Alex) and Katelyn Kennedy, and 5 sophomores, Haleigh,
Skyler, Mercedes, Erica and Jennifer.
We started District out losing to the Lady Raiders (0-1). Then
we accomplished our first goal, beating Pampa for a (1-1). We beat the
Lady Demonettes for a record of (2-1). We lost focus against the Lady
Dons that brought us to a record of (2-2). We successfully stomped the
Herd for a record of (3-2). We lost to the Lady Raiders for a record of
(3-3).
Over the years, we've grown on each other, not only as team
mates but more like sisters! We are no longer individuals; we are one
team!
Tonight, we face the Lady Harvesters in a game that could take us
to the playoffs. Practices have been tougher and rougher. We've gotten more
serious then ever before.
WE ARE DETERMINED! WE WILL SUCCEED! WE ARE THE LADY
LONGHORNS!!!!

Playoffs? By: Jamey Burrough

Caprock got new coaches! When Coach Parr became the new head coach, he
hired almost an entire new staff which so far consists of Coach Widner
(head defensive and DB coach), Coach Page (wide receiver coach), and
Coach Ramos (offensive lineman coach). Coach Widner was a former WT coach.
Coach Page was a college wide receiver, and Coach Ramos many of us know
from Bowie Middle School. The new coaches bring a whole new aspect to
the game and the off season. Coach Widner has changed our defense to a
3-4, which completely changes the configuration of our old defense.
Coach Page has our wide receivers working harder than ever catching at
least 100 balls a day. Coach Ramos has our linemen working on foot speed
and technique more and more. And coach Widner is working the Defense in every
aspect trying to teach them the new scheme. And finally, Coach Parr is
working with the quarterbacks a lot. Word on the street is that he wants
to have a dominant passing game.

Cutting into Your New Future By Krystal Bynum

Cosmetology is one of the elective classes here at Caprock; you may
choose to go to one of the two schools-- Amarillo High or Palo Duro High
School. This is a very good course to take while you're still in high
school. You take it your junior and senior years. After your second year, you
will take the state board test, and you'll have your license. After all
that, you will be in the real world doing what you do best. To get in the
program, you must go to your counselor and apply, and if they
read your application and accept it then you're on your way. Cosmetology
is a really great course so take it while you can and save so much more
of your time and money. You don't want to miss out on this opportunity.
If you join now, you will not regret it. Go for your goal and do what
you've been waiting for.

"Coach Parr May go Far" by Marc Martinez

About two weeks before Christmas break, Head Coach Gerald Nipp resigned.
In his place, Coach Parr (from Palo Duro) took the position. He has
really big plans for Caprock, planning to make us one of the best
football teams in the state. So far, he has rearranged the weight room as a
"fresh start" reminder. He has replaced a majority of the coaches and has
decided to do spring training instead of two-a-days at the beginning of
the season. Also, he has begun intensive off-season training everyday
before school and after school till about 5:00p.m. Parr is also planning
on getting the varsity new uniforms again as another "fresh start"
reminder, and the old uniforms were not that good looking anyway.
A majority of the players like the new coach, and everybody has high hopes.
Now, everybody is working even harder than ever before to get bigger and
faster than everybody else. A lot of players that resigned earlier this
year when Nipp was in charge, have came back to give this new coach from
Palo Duro a shot. Maybe we will even be better than our rivals and Coach
Parr's father, the head coach of Palo Duro.

Technology Systems

A modular approach to career education enables teachers to effectively
present vital knowledge and technology skills to all students in a fun
way.

CNC LATHE
Introduces the students to the CAD/CAM/CNC process piece-by-piece, until
they have completed the steps correctly. With this machine you can make
a chess piece, a pen, and a baseball bat and other stuff, but you only
learn these three things in tech. systems.

Desktop Publishing
In this module, students will learn all of the steps needed to develop
good publishing skills and allow them to practice the skills using
standard industry software.

Virtual Makeover
Students will discover a variety of new looks by using a digital camera,
computer, and special software. You can manipulate guys to looking like
girls or visa versa.

Residential Wiring
Students will learn to become familiar with safety procedures required
to assist them with electrical wiring.

Digital Manufacturing
Introduces students to the art of manufacturing through digital graphics
and animations.

Digital Photography
Specializes in photography using a digital camera.

Computer Animation
Computer animation shows students how to display animation techniques on
the computer. You can make little animations with a bouncing ball, and
egg cracking with sound and other things too.

Embroidery
Students learn both art and science of creating interesting embroidery
designs using the software. You can embroider things onto your shirt;
you could make flowers, cars, names, and other things as well.

Landscape Design
Landscape design involves the analysis, planning, design, creation
and/or construction of exterior spaces utilizing plant materials and
appropriate landscape elements

Global Positioning System
The ability to effectively manipulate GPS software and equipment.
The ability to relate GPS data to the world. You learn how to use a GPS
device correctly and what organizations use it.

Special Effects
Opportunity to explore the history and development of future computer
special effects. Discover various tools and techniques used in special
effects. Research possible career opportunities in the field of
special effects.

Video Editing
Non-linear editor that allows videos to be edited quickly and easily.
You get to edit commercials, movies, or make your own and edit that.

Meet Dr. Farmer By: Valerie Baker

I think that taking Dual Credit classes are a great idea. You can kill
two birds with one stone. You can get your high school credit and get
the college class out of the way already. Dual Credit History is time
consuming but kind of easy to do for me. It just takes memorizing the
important things in the book. Setting time aside for it can be hard
though. We don't do the history Dual Credit course in class; it's up to
you to do it on your own time. Since you have to read 3-5 chapters in a
month, it would be really hard to do it all right before the test. So
what I do is divide the reading up into a few pages a day, to make it
easier. What I don't get to on the weekdays, I make up on the weekends.
It was really hard studying for the first test because ACE barely got
our books in 2 weeks before the test and we had 5 chapters to read.
